We have our 5-year old and 2 year old both in a Graco Nautilus and have been more than happy. They both seem very comfortable, and have plenty of room, etc. We've been using at least one Nautilus since soon after they were first introduced, more than 2 years ago. That seat cover has been through the washing machine numerous times, and still looks great. I love the sturdy, built in cup holders, and my kids love the little 'toy holders' built into their arm rests. And my 5-year old still is very comfortable in her 5 point harness, which makes me feel more comfortable as well. Highly recommend.

We have a Britax Diplomat which was an amazing car seat, easy to install and uninstall, great for the child to nap in and compact in size. For our next car seat, we decided we wanted to spend a little less, so we decided to try the Graco Nautilus. It is a well-built seat and good value for the price but there a few flaws that make it a lot less desirable than the Britax. First of all, there is a lot less padding on the bottom, my son complains every now and then that his butt hurts, and you if you push down on the sitting area, it does feel pretty hard - it could use more cushioning. Next, when my son naps in the seat, his head flops all over the place, the seat is so upright, it is not comfortable to lay back in. Finally, it is much more difficult to install and uninstall with LATCH. The Britax had nice buckles but the Graco has cheap clips to connect to the LATCH anchors.

We bought this car seat almost a year ago for our son when he turned one. After almost a year of use, I have to say that this was an excellent purchase. I have no complaints. My son is very tall for his age (at 20 months, many people mistake him for a 3 yr. old) and he has no problems fitting into the carseat. We've taken a few 7-8 hour trips and he has no trouble sleeping in the seat either. The straps are very easily adjustable and make tightening and loosening (depending on his clothing based on the season) a simple and short process. I'm trying to think of anything that is an inconvenience or I would like to change, and I can't think of a thing. If you want a safe, comfortable car seat without spending the money on a Britax, this car seat is the one to buy!

Purchased for my sisters car, in laws car and my car. My two year old loves his seat and especially the cup holder and side pockets too. The seat is comfortable enough for him to fall asleep!

I purchased the nautilus for the main car, but I planned on buying a cheaper, more basic seat for the second car that my son doesn't ride in as much. After my one year old rode in the nautilus for a couple weeks I had to buy a second Nautilus for the second car. The seat is so comfy and padded that I didn't want to have him be uncomfortable in a cheaper seat. The material on the Nautilus matrix and bravo editions(bravo is a slightly darker gray than the matrix) are very breathable and washable. The only thing I would change about this seat would be to have the strap that goes between the legs be slightly longer. It's easy to sit on it, then you have to dig for it.

A local sling manufacturer, however, opposed the warning, saying it could hurt her business and argued the slings are safe if used properly.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said slings have been associated with at least 14 infant deaths over the last 20 years. Most of the babies who died were under four months old and had either a low birth weight, were born prematurely, or had breathing issues such as a cold, the commission reported.

Slings are made from cloth and wrap around a parent's body, allowing them to carry a baby close on the chest, back, or hip.

The commission said the slings pose a suffocation hazard. The fabric can block a baby's breathing, resulting in death within a minute, it reported. And if the sling keeps the baby in a curled position, the airway can be restricted, rendering the baby unable to cry while suffocation occurs, the commission said.

It recommended that parents and caregivers who use a sling make sure the baby's face is visible, the chin upright, and that the baby isn't pressed up against the body. Babies should be checked frequently, it added.

Kristi Hayes, who manufactures and sells slings as part of her Berwick, Maine-based Gypsy Mama company, said that while she is "deeply saddened" by the sling-associated deaths, the products are safe and superior to alternatives such as baby carriages and strollers.

"They're an ancient practice that has been around since the dawn of time," she said.

She said slings are a more ergonomical and intimate baby-carrying method, with both physical and mental benefits. She said slings support a baby's neck and spine more than a stroller and help regulate breathing and body temperature. She said they also help a parent develop a closer bond with the baby, and vice-versa.

When babies lie on their backs in baby carriages and strollers, Hayes said it can cause "container syndrome" — a pediatric condition where a baby's motor skills and mental health are inhibited.

She said she's never had a parent express concern about a sling she's sold.

But after the commission's warning, she said she is concerned about its effect on her business — and the sling business as a whole.

"The industry may see a backlash," she said. "It's important for consumers to understand that slings are not only safe, but provide so many benefits."

The commission said it is currently developing a safety standard for all slings.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning Friday that baby slings -- which parents put around their necks to carry their babies -- may pose a risk of suffocation.

In researching incident reports from the past 20 years, the CPSC identified and is investigating at least 14 deaths associated with sling-style infant carriers, including three in 2009. Twelve of the deaths involved babies younger than four months of age.

Don Mays, of Consumer Reports, explains that the potential hazards of putting small babies -- especially newborns -- into bag-style slings arise because, "A very young infant's head will be folded forward. That cuts off the airway, and they essentially suffocate. Another problem could be if the baby's head could be nestled up against the carrier's body."

The CPSC said many of the babies who died in slings were either a low birth weight twin, were born prematurely, or had breathing issues such as a cold. Therefore, it urged parents of preemies, twins, babies in fragile health and those with low weight to use extra care and consult their pediatricians about using slings.

Between 2006 and 2008, sales for soft infant carriers rose 43 percent, to more than $21 million, reports CBS News Correspondent Elaine Quijano, but there are no federal safety standards covering sling-type carriers.

"Don't use slings at all," Mays recommends. "There are safer ways of carrying your baby than in a sling."

A lesson that will always haunt Lisa Cochran, whose week-old infant, Derrik, suddenly stopped breathing as he rested quietly against her in May in a bag-style sling, made by Infantino. He died.

"(Such devices were) highly recommended -- especially for breast-feeding mothers and mothers in general. … (They) kept (the infants) close to your heart, so they could hear your heart beat."

Cochran, of Keizer, Ore., and who is pregnant again, says, "I, as a first-time mom, had no clue I could walk into a store and pick something off the shelf that wasn't safe."

She is suing the Infantino, which issued a statement to CBS News saying, "While Infantino believes that its Slingrider baby sling is a safe product, the company is working with the CPSC to address the agency's concerns and those of any parents and caregivers."

While Friday's CPSC warning will address the suffocation danger, Consumer Reports says at least 37 other children have suffered serious injuries, including skull fractures, while being carried in or falling out of baby slings. That led to a recall in 2007.

Nancy Cowles, executive director of Kids in Danger, a non-profit group working on product safety issues, told co-anchor Erica Hill the CPSC needs to "look closely" at the carriers in which the deaths occurred to see if "there does need to be a specific recall of specific products, but the warning, additional instructions and a standard, frankly, for these products is what's needed to make sure that … when you go to the store to buy something, you know that someone has already made sure that it's going to be safe for your child."

"It should be noted that women have been using slings for centuries safely to carry their babies. Obviously, the ones involved in the deaths, I think people should wait to hear the CPSC's warning to see if there's anymore specific information. But with these products, you need to make sure you're using one that's been recommended to you, that they have adequate safety information, either on their Web site or that comes with the product, and that you check with someone and that you see what your baby's position is in it at all times, not just when you first put them in it, to make sure that it's going to be something that will keep them in a safe position."

Cowles suggested that parents discuss slings with their doctors, but it "certainly would not hurt to wait" to use them until a baby is several weeks old and has more control of his or her head.

I purchased this bag with high hopes. I just loved the way it looked! The size and pockets also seemed to be what I was looking for as well. However, I find that there are a few design flaws with the bag. Firstly, the mommy pocket is located on the front flap of the bag. This is a problem because if you put something in it (like your wallet or phone), its difficult to flip open due to the weight. I don't think I carry anything unreasonable in the mommy pocket (iphone, wallet, keys). Make sure you test this out before purchasing the bag. In my opinion, they should have placed the changing pad where the front flap is, and put the mommy pocket where the changing pad is. Or, they should have placed a supporting material of some sort to support the flap. Secondly, the straps of the bag become wedged in the connecting clasps (where the straps meet the bag). Whenever the weight shifts from carrying the bag, the strap slides from side to side of the clasp, causing the bag to look funny and feel unbalanced. I would suggest that they use a stronger/thicker material for the straps to avoid this problem. As it stands, the straps are made of too thin of a material, and cause this problem. Again, try putting some weight in the bag before purchasing and see how it feels.I purchased the bag in Black/Silver, so these problems may be specific to the color. I give this bag 3 stars because it is a nice bag, it just has a few issues that I hope they resolve if they update the design.

I am a very organized person, therefore all the compartments are great, however there just isn't enough space in this bag to hold all the necessary items for a baby.

The bag is great! It's beautiful! I gave it to one of my best friends. I was somewhat disappointed in the size of the bag, though. I assumed it was bigger.

not as big as I had hoped. i can fit one change of clothes, stack of diapers, wipes, receiving blanket and a few odds and ends. would have liked to have fit a few more changes of clothes and snacks. it's a tight fit for more than one or two bottles. the fabric is awesome and lots of pockets to put stuff. easy to use and carry. cute bag but if i was to do it over i would probably pick something else. not sure how durable it is since i've only had it a few months

Your lifestyle If you rely on public transportation, size, weight, and portability are essential factors--test how easy it is to quickly fold the stroller for catching a bus, or negotiating a flight of stairs. If you walk more often than drive, look for a sturdy stroller with good suspension and easy maneuverability. If you're a frequent driver, try a lightweight stroller that stores compactly in your trunk. For athletic and outdoorsy types, a jogger might be perfect.

Space limitations How big is it, folded and unfolded? Will it fit in the trunk or back seat of your car? Will it fit through a standard-size door? Can you take it on a subway or bus?

Most are typically convertible--that is, they can be used as a carriage and a stroller, so they grow with baby. Standard-size strollers are appropriate for newborns because they offer a full-recline feature, shock-absorbing suspension system, and oversize wheels for a smooth ride on varying terrain.
Features may include: Multiple-position seat recline and back support; removable weather boot; extra seat padding; removable front tray; storage basket; canopy; reversible handle for conversion to carriage; dual wheel brakes; adjustable footrest; easy-to-use folding mechanism; extendable handle; larger, all-terrain wheels.
Age range: If the stroller reclines fully, it is safe for a newborn. If not, it's appropriate for 4 months to up to 4 years of age.

Lightweight and Umbrella

These strollers are designed to fold quickly, easily, and compactly for storage and offer features that provide a comfortable ride for everyone.
Stroller features may include: Child play tray; parent cup holder; three-point or five-point harness system (not overhead); removable, washable pad; all-terrain, swivel wheels; brakes that set with a foot lever; seat recline; storage basket.
Infant car seat features may include: Canopy; level indicator; ergonomically designed handle; head cushion; stay-in-car base.
Age range: Newborn (for car seat) to toddler (stroller).

Joggers
For active parents who want to include baby in their outings, the jogger stroller's unique design may be just the thing. Many are three-wheeled, complete with comfortable seating, a parking brake, a storage basket, and all-terrain wheels. Joggers are made to fold quickly, easily, and compactly, making them great for travel. Most joggers can hold up to 75 pounds, but it's likely your child will outgrow the seat before then. Also keep in mind (with young babies in particular) that while most jogger models are designed for some bumps along the trail, if you are planning on climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or are traveling over rough and rocky terrain, it's probably best to leave baby at home or try a backpack instead.

Serious road runners should look for smooth tires--the bigger, the better. If you will be running on trails, strolling to a soccer game, etc., then knobby tires, with better traction, are suggested. If you live in a wet climate, invest in an aluminum frame and rims that prevent rusting and is more lightweight. While aluminum is typically more expensive, you'll find that it pays in the long run.
Features may include: All-terrain wheels; wrist strap; hand brake; durable, weatherproof fabric; sturdy construction; adjustable handlebar height; better suspension; storage pouch.
Age range: Most pediatricians recommend waiting until your baby is approximately 6 months of age. Depending on its size, you can use this type of stroller well into the toddler years.

Double and Triple
If you're the parent of multiples or have an infant and toddler in your household, walking them by yourself may sound next to impossible... unless you have a stroller made especially for more than one child. Double and triple strollers offer the convenience of walking multiple children at the same time as comfortably as if you were walking just one. These remain convenient for carrying a child and groceries once one child has outgrown it. These models are available in a wide variety of fabrics and features.

There are two types of double strollers:
1. Tandem (Infants face forward, one in back of the other.) These strollers fold easily and compactly for storage or travel and are a good choice for maneuverability. Beware the "front seat" issue, though, and look for a model that gives the back seat a "boost" so both babies can enjoy the view. The front-to-back style is best if you have an older child and a newborn.
Features may include: a single canopy hood; separate canopies; individually reclining seats; rear wheel brakes; fully retractable rear seat for a sleeping infant; removable, washable pads; separate footrests; restraining straps with safety buckle.

2. Side-by-Side (Infants sit next to each other)
These strollers are lightweight and fold quickly and compactly. Most will fit through normal-size doorways, although due to their sheer width it can be difficult to maneuver through grocery stores, crowded events, or if your children vary greatly in size or weight. The side-by-side style is most commonly used by parents of twins (or two children of comparable weight).
Features may include: European styling; thick padding; removable, washable pads; individually reclining seats; single shared canopy; storage basket; footrest; restraining straps with safety buckle.
Age range: Double strollers are appropriate for newborns only when the full-reclining seat feature is available and can be used until your toddler is approximately 4 years old.

Stroller Frames
A great way to utilize your existing infant car seat is with a stroller frame. The metal frame of the stroller actually allows you to snap most major infant car seat brands into place. These frames are made to be extremely lightweight, to be easy to transport, and to fold compactly--making them great for travel. A storage basket is also usually included.

The Grand Tour LX has all of the fluidity of a typical high-end stroller. It’s easy (and, I’ll admit, fun!) to push, has an adjustable handle and it navigates sidewalks and store aisles with ease. It has puncture-proof wheels which I initially worried would sacrifice the quality of the ride but I was pleased to discover that the full suspension more than compensated. And I love the easy-to-use foot-operated brake, as well.

This is perhaps the most striking feature of the Grand Tour LX: You can fold it and un-fold it in a flash. When folded, it stands upright for easy storage and quick access when needed. It’s compact but sturdy and will fit easily in the trunk of a car or tucked behind the front door at home. It’s no umbrella stroller size-wise, to be sure, but it’s still easy to pack and store.

Okay, get ready for it. This stroller comes with almost everything you could ever possibly need in a stroller (and some things you may have never dreamed of!). In addition to things like a cup-holder, rain cover, bug cover, baby carrycot, reflective accents and the famous Maclaren lifetime warranty, the Grand Tour LX also has built-in headlights (seriously), with multiple visibility settings (constant, flashing, colored) which mom or dad can control with a remote control (seriously… again). The remote mounts on the handlebar console which flips open to feature a clock and thermometer. And if that’s not enough, the Grand Tour LX includes an onboard Strollometer® which measures distance by way of an integrated wireless sensor in the wheels.

I know it sounds almost comical but, truth be told, it’s both useful and fun to have these features. They all conspire to ensure mom or dad is safe, fit, and never late! Unfortunately, Maclaren hasn’t yet figured out a way to ensure that baby helps with the same missions…
There are plenty of accessories available for the Grand Tour LX, including infant car seat adaptors, a boot which turns the Grand Tour LX into a sleeping bag on wheels, and adorable toy sets for the bumper bar to occupy little riders when you decide to put the Strollometer® to the test!

Maclaren Grand Tour LX bottom line
This stroller is thoroughly impressive. Expensive, yes, but it is a marriage of the ease of a classic umbrella stroller with the style and durability that you would expect in a modern ‘glam’ stroller. It folds and unfolds in a flash, adjusts to the different needs of every parent and child, and is sleek and stylish. It’s an excellent stroller for any age and may just be that one mythical stroller that does it all… and then some!

Putting it Together is really simple — connect the wheels and bumper bar, then snap the side and front fabric panels around the bumper bar.

The Ride: is very similar to the Baby Jogger City Mini stroller. You’re not going to be able to jog or go off-roading with the Ion — but in the city and suburbs, this double front wheeler performs excellently. It’s got a tight turning radius and is perfect for going around in small aisles and spaces. The stroller is low to the ground, but if you use an umbrella stroller already, you’ll instantly feel comfortable with it. Taller parents will appreciate the adjustable handlebar (which has 6 positions). It is very easy to push one handed, while holding packages or onto an older child. The oval handlebar holds a diaper bag.

You can get an adapter to use a Graco, Peg Perego, Maxi-Cosi and Chicco Infant car seats with the Ion. A bassinet (carrycot) option will be available soon.

The seat will hold a child up to 44 lbs. The stroller has a slight recline, but you are able to adjust the seat to be more upright. The bumper bar is a big hit with the babies – they love holding onto it and saying, “Go, go!”

The storage basket is taller and narrower than most baskets. The wire rim is flexible (very bendable) for when you need to take things in and out of it. Since this is a lightweight stroller, use caution in hanging too much weight off the handlebars (any lightweight stroller will tip when overloaded).

The sun canopy is terrific! Unzip it to extend it to its furthest capacity. A rain cover is available at an extra cost.

Folding/unfolding for travel: The fold has two major steps: First, pull back the sun canopy and twist the gray “key” clockwise (on the handle), then push up the red secondary locking latch up and push the stroller forward to fold. You can attach the locking strap to the locking pin. To make it even more compact, take the back wheels off.
To unfold: First, unhook the locking strap. Lift the handle up and the stroller will snap together (the red locking latch will engage automatically).

A rain cover and car seat adapter are available now, with a bassinet coming out soon.

Pros: The fold is simple and perfect for stashing in smaller vehicles/storing in smaller places. You won’t have any trouble navigating smaller store aisles/spaces and the one-handed push is sensational.

Cons: At 18 lbs (with the wheels on), it’s not as lightweight as other strollers.

Verdict: The Ion’s no-fuss fold and effortless push makes it perfect for city and suburb use (and it will perform nicely for long walks). While the Ion isn’t cheap, compared to other Valco Strollers, it is much less expensive.
