With the stay-in-car base feature, the infant car seat can also be used as a carrier. This allows you to take the car seat from the car to stroller and vice versa without ever disturbing baby. Once baby outgrows the infant car seat, it can be removed, converting the system into a stroller. The stroller's own seating and restraint system is used until your child is approximately 4 years old. These strollers are designed to fold quickly, easily, and compactly for storage and offer features that provide a comfortable ride for everyone.
Stroller features may include: Child play tray; parent cup holder; three-point or five-point harness system (not overhead); removable, washable pad; all-terrain, swivel wheels; brakes that set with a foot lever; seat recline; storage basket.
Infant car seat features may include: Canopy; level indicator; ergonomically designed handle; head cushion; stay-in-car base.
Age range: Newborn (for car seat) to toddler (stroller).

Joggers
For active parents who want to include baby in their outings, the jogger stroller's unique design may be just the thing. Many are three-wheeled, complete with comfortable seating, a parking brake, a storage basket, and all-terrain wheels. Joggers are made to fold quickly, easily, and compactly, making them great for travel. Most joggers can hold up to 75 pounds, but it's likely your child will outgrow the seat before then. Also keep in mind (with young babies in particular) that while most jogger models are designed for some bumps along the trail, if you are planning on climbing Mount Kilimanjaro or are traveling over rough and rocky terrain, it's probably best to leave baby at home or try a backpack instead.

Serious road runners should look for smooth tires--the bigger, the better. If you will be running on trails, strolling to a soccer game, etc., then knobby tires, with better traction, are suggested. If you live in a wet climate, invest in an aluminum frame and rims that prevent rusting and is more lightweight. While aluminum is typically more expensive, you'll find that it pays in the long run.
Features may include: All-terrain wheels; wrist strap; hand brake; durable, weatherproof fabric; sturdy construction; adjustable handlebar height; better suspension; storage pouch.
Age range: Most pediatricians recommend waiting until your baby is approximately 6 months of age. Depending on its size, you can use this type of stroller well into the toddler years.

Double and Triple
If you're the parent of multiples or have an infant and toddler in your household, walking them by yourself may sound next to impossible... unless you have a stroller made especially for more than one child. First, consider where you live and the local terrain. A stroller that's going to be used on city streets will need different features than one that'll primarily see action in a suburban mall or on well-maintained sidewalks; and a stroller that will be used in a rural area will require yet another set of criteria if it's going to hold up over time. In urban areas, you'll need to scale curbs, maneuver over sidewalk cracks and potholes, and fit between narrow store aisles, juggle your stroller and baby in and out of public transportation, perhaps lug them both up and down flights of stairs, and more. Fans of the high-end Bugaboo Cameleon Stroller say its rugged wheels can take both bumpy sidewalks or off-road terrain. Your stroller should:

• Be super-sturdy. Not only is there the repeated jarring of broken sidewalks and such, there's some serious wear and tear due to the fact that urbanites do a lot of walking. In general, a steel frame will hold up much better than an aluminum one, but it'll be heavier -- not so great if you live in a walk-up apartment building or use public transportation a lot. • Fold compactly. The stroller will need to fit inside the trunk of a taxicab as well as on public transportation. • Have ample storage space. Since your stroller will serve as your baby's main means of transportation, make sure there's room in the basket for all his stuff as well as for shopping bags and such. The Maxi-Cosi Loola Stroller (MSRP $430) is a reversible seat stroller with a telescopic 3-D compact fold, adjustable handles, a generous sun canopy and a large shopping basket.

The Dorel Juvenile Group USA recently brought it to the US from Europe, where it was sold under their Bébé Confort brand.

Want to use it as a travel system? Just take off the seat and attach the Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat (sold separately).

Putting It Together
The chassis comes with the wheels attached and the seat comes folded accordion-style. Open the seat by pulling the sides outward. Undo the shoulder straps and put the seat pad on, then re-feed the straps into their correct position and snap on the seat pad. To finish putting it together, attach the sun canopy and child bumper bar.
The Loola comes in three colors: Oxygen Red, Oxygen Black, and Choco Mint, which has a reversible seat pad (chocolate brown and mint stripes on one side, solid chocolate brown on the other).

The Ride
The Loola is a very smooth ride, due to a spring-loaded suspension. You can steer it one-handed and there are three handle position: facing up, downwards and inward. The wheels can be used in either a swivel or fixed wheel setting. To use the Loola into a swivel wheel position, click the swivel locks upward; to use it in the locked wheel position, push the swivel locks downward until you hear a click. When compared to similar strollers, the suspension of the Loola is outstanding.

The Seat
The seat is recommended for children over 6-months-old and has a 5-point padded harness. The weight limit is 50 lbs. The seat is very padded and there are four recline positions. Even in its most upright setting, the Loola’s seat is slightly reclined. The Loola is very sturdy; no matter what I hung off the handlebars, this stroller did not tip in the least.

Storage
The storage basket is a great size. If the seat is forward-facing, access it from the back. If the seat is rear-facing, access it from the front.

Sun/Weather Exposure
I was pleased with the sun canopy. There is a dark mesh window so you can see your child (but the sun stays shaded) and the canopy goes down pretty far. The rain cover is included and zips onto the sun canopy.

The Fold
The fold is pretty simple and compact. If you are folding the stroller with the seat forward-facing: first, lock the wheels in the fixed/straight position, then press the buttons on both sides of the handles and push the handles down, pull the fold release handle (above the basket) upward. Then push the handles down until you engage the fold lock (the lock on the left side). If you are folding the stroller with the seat rear-facing, fully recline the seat, so you can access the fold release handle and pull it upwards. To make it more compact, take the seat off first and fold the chassis the exact same way you folded the whole stroller. Then fold the seat into itself (accordion-style).

To unfold: First, unlock the fold lock on the left side of the stroller. Then stand behind the stroller and push the foot pedal down while pulling the handles upwards. Push down on the handles to make sure the stroller is locked open.
Parents will like that the Loola can stand folded.

Accessories
Adapters for the Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Seat and rain cover are included.
Parking Brake
Push down the red pedal to engage the brake. Push down on the blue pedal to release it.

Pros: The seat is reversible, it will take the Maxi-Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat, seat, has heavy duty shock absorbers, adjustable handlebars and a compact fold.

Cons: At 26 lbs, it’s not a lightweight ride.

Don't Overbid -- or underbid
The San Francisco Chronicle published an article about the popularity of online auctions -- and how they're very profitable for sellers. They wrote, "...traders say they get higher prices at auctions than at swap meets or collectibles shows because bidding generates excitement." So while you're gaining access to a huge variety of goods, keep in mind that sometimes old-fashioned yard sales, secondhand stores and swap meets may save you more money.

Do your research beforehand -- including prices for what you want to buy new -- and don't overbid, or else you defeat the purpose of buying used (particularly when you factor in shipping costs). Set a limit on how much you're willing to spend before you get carried away.

As a side note, keep in mind that these products are coming from households across the country, so there may be some products you can't find in local stores. One mom I know picked up a gorgeous French stroller online -- something she couldn't have obtained almost any other way. She was one of the few bidders, because not many people had heard of the brand. (She made sure her bids were fair, however, because she knew the owners had paid several hundred dollars for it originally.)

What not to buy -- or to be wary of
If you're buying any sort of baby equipment or clothing, check the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission Web site for any recall information before you buy. As a rule of thumb, don't buy baby items more than ten years old -- many new safety standards have been implemented in the past few years. The Danny Foundation recommends carefully evaluating a crib more than two years old -- and on any crib you buy, make sure all the parts are there and nothing has worn out. Never buy a car seat secondhand, unless you're certain it has never been in an accident. A crash weakens the structure of a seat, making it unsafe for your child -- and useless in the event of another crash.

Selling your stuff
You can also market your own used items (or anything else!) online! Commissions range from 1.25 to 5 percent, depending on the company you use and the sales price -- check out the competition and then go test the waters! It's a fun way to clean out your house or to get something for old baby clothes, maternity wear, toys and other household knicknacks you no longer need.

I looked at the Jeep Traveler Tandem stroller ($230) and discovered that it has a lot of great features and a few limitations.

Assembly and Fold
It took about 15 minutes to assemble the Traveler Tandem. It wasn’t particularly difficult, though I did have to use pliers to insert the axle pins. The instructions were cryptic in places because the photos are of very small details, but it wasn’t rocket science.
The fold is pretty convoluted, but the result is impressive. First, you push the two sun shades down. Next, tilt the back seat forward using the recline mechanism. Then, push the adjustable handle all the way down. Now — are you still with me? I’ll spare you the rest, but trust me — the extra work is worth it. The stroller automatically locks into a snug fold that’s about the same size as many single strollers we’ve tested. The manufacturer, Kolcraft, says “No SUV required,” and they are right. It slips easily into even a small car’s trunk.

I wouldn’t want to go through all that to fold it five times a day, and I think it could be challenging to teach another caregiver how to do it, but I got used to it over time. If storage space is an issue, this is a great option for a double stroller.

Seats, Recline and Ride
Both seats on the Traveler Tandem recline. The rear seat reclines flat and accommodates many brands of infant car seats (Britax, Chicco, Graco, Evenflo, Combi and MaxiCosi, to name a few) without costly adapters. When not in use, the car seat strap fits neatly into a little pouch on the side of the stroller. When the infant seat is in place, the front seat will not recline.

I put my 4-year-old son, Finn, in the front seat and my 15-month-old, Egan, in the back for several walks in the neighborhood. Both are average size for their age, but the sun shade brushed my big boy’s head. When I reclined the front seat, Finn’s head went beyond the seat back by several inches. It also encroached on Egan’s leg room, causing him to pitch a fit and kick his brother in the head. Less than optimal, I admit.

Maneuverability is an issue with this stroller and I struggled with it. The Traveler Tandem is 3 ½ feet long, which is about the same length as my full-sized single jogger, but carrying two passengers front-to-back made it feel a bit like a battleship. The wheels are hard plastic and offer no traction, but the ride is pretty smooth. Steering was difficult and took a firm grip with two hands, and it pulls hard to one side if the sidewalk is even slightly sloped, but a wide, grippy push handle is the best design for the job. Because the bigger child goes in front (he’s 34 pounds), I was unable to get enough leverage to tilt the front wheels off the ground to get over a curb. I had to back up and lift the rear wheels over, then pull the front wheels up and over.

The brakes work one at a time, but are quite effective. An adjustable handle works in three positions to accommodate taller parents. The safety restraints are cushy and padded with mesh. They are easy to manipulate and comfy on the kids.

Storage and Bells and Whistles
One big advantage to a big stroller is huge baskets, and the Traveler Tandem has two. The front basket is accessible from the front and sides of the stroller and the rear one clicks down so you can reach in, even when the seat is reclined or the infant car seat is in place. It also has little Velcro pouches attached to the sides for the kids’ stuff, a snack tray and cup holder for the front child, and a cup holder for the grownups.

A cute steering wheel toy was a hit with both my kids, but there is only one. Finn managed to detach it easily but a smaller child wouldn’t be able to yank it out.

Sun Protection
While the sun protection is ample for both passengers, the shades can be easily wiggled out of position by the kids. One needed addition: a window for looking in on the infant without stopping.

Pros: Extremely compact fold for a double stroller. Nicely padded shoulder straps. Older children can get in and out without detaching the toddler bar. Adjustable handle. Compatible with most popular brands of infant car seats.
Cons: Not enough head room for taller kids. Plastic wheels give no traction. Steering is difficult on anything but a perfectly flat surface.
Final Verdict: The Jeep Traveler Tandem is a solid tandem that won’t work for tall toddlers, but would be a good choice for parents who prefer the front-to-back setup, have a small car, or need lots of storage.

Strollers can be a parent's best friend, but choosing the wrong baby stroller could spell trouble and inconvenience. Strollers are available to match just about any lifestyle, so think about how you want to use the stroller first and then look at strollers that best fit your life and your baby.

Safety Features Are Important For Strollers
As always, baby's safety is the biggest concern. Check strollers for stability before buying, and don't forget to see if the stroller will remain upright with a diaper bag hanging over the handles! Also check the stroller harness. A five-point harness is best, especially for infants or babies who are in the stroller a lot. For occasional mall trips, a three-point harness might be OK. Look for pinch points and sharp corners, too.

Stroller Wheels and Handles
Walk your favorite strollers through the store before making a purchase. Check the height of the handles to be sure they are comfortable for you. Taller parents should look for strollers with adjustable handle heights so they don't have to stoop. Choose a stroller that makes corners smoothly, especially if you'll use it in crowded places. Also try walking with the strollers at a faster pace to be sure your feet don't hit the wheels. Foam-covered handles are a nice choice for comfort.

Check Out Strollers Convenience Features
Do you need a stroller with a basket underneath, or will you carry the diaper bag elsewhere? Some strollers come with parent organization trays, toy bars, snack and drink holders, rain hoods and more. Many of these accessories are available separately, so don't let the lack of a drink holder sway you away from strollers you otherwise love. How the stroller folds and how much trunk space it may take are important considerations. Be sure you can fold, unfold and store the stroller easily!

Lightweight Strollers
Lightweight strollers have come a long way from the old umbrella stroller. This new generation of strollers under 20 pounds have many of the same features as larger strollers, such as reclining seats, storage baskets and sun shades. These strollers are great for travelers and perfect for trips to the mall or zoo. Inexpensive umbrella strollers are still a great, economical choice to be stashed in the trunk as a spare, but those without a reclining seat can't be used with infants who can't sit up on their own.
