Written by drbob on January 25, 2012 – 6:10 pm -It's one of the most expensive car seats on the market, but expert and user reviews agree it's also the best. Why your 2-year-old should face rearward in the car
Written by drbob on February 27, 2011 – 7:57 pm -By Tara Tuckwiller Forget the old 1-year rule. The American Academy of Pediatrics now says you shouldn't turn your child's car seat forward-facing until at least age 2 or later. In fact, an article published in the June 2009 issue of the British Medical Journal points out that children up to age 4 are much safer in rear-facing car seats. Our latest report on convertible car seats thoroughly analyzes the new crop of seats designed to keep kids rear-facing as long as possible. Sounds difficult, doesn’t it? Especially, when your child’s little legs look cramped, the one-year, 20-pound guideline to make the switch to face forward appears to be a comfort godsend. Car Safety Seat Checkup
Written by drbob on January 25, 2011 – 10:39 am -Using a car safety seat correctly makes a big difference. Even the "safest" seat may not protect your child in a crash unless it is used correctly. So take a minute to check to be sure. Does your car have air bags? • Never place a rear-facing car safety seat in the front seat of a vehicle that has a front passenger air bag. If the air bag inflates, it will hit the back of the car safety seat, right where your baby's head is, and could cause serious injury or death. • The safest place for all children to ride is in the back seat. • If an older child must ride in the front seat, a child in a forward-facing car safety seat with a harness may be the best choice. Just be sure the vehicle seat is moved as far back from the dashboard (and the... more

How to Install a Car Seat Properly
Written by drbob on January 25, 2011 – 9:44 am -Is Your Child Seat Installed Properly? You might be surprised to learn that more than two-thirds aren't. Here's why, and how you can fix the problem. Once the straps on a child seat are snugged up tight, most parents drive away confident that their son or daughter is safe and secure. But here's a startling fact that should shake that confidence: Seven in 10 child safety seats are being misused. Results of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration study of 5,000 children riding in vehicles found that more than 70 percent were in seats that were either inappropriate for the child or were incorrectly installed, even though 95 percent of the parents thought their child was secured safely. The agency is pushing to raise awareness of this issue... more
