Consumer Product Safety Commission announces huge recall of cribs with drop-down sides
Written by admin on November 28, 2009 – 6:44 am -The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 2.1 million Stork Craft drop-side cribs, which have been linked to at least four recent deaths, including a 9-month-old from the Bronx.
"The CPSC urges parents and caregivers to immediately stop using the recalled cribs, wait for the free repair kit, and do not attempt to fix the cribs without the kit," the agency said in a statement. "The cribs' drop-side plastic hardware can break, deform or parts can become missing."
"When the drop-side detaches, it creates space between the drop-side and the crib mattress. The bodies of infants and toddlers can become entrapped in the space, which can lead to suffocation."
The cribs were distributed in the U.S. and Canada. Some have the Fisher-Price logo instead of Stork Craft, the Canada-based company said. More info is available at storkcraft.com.
